Bald eagle rescue made Christmas memorable

On Christmas Day, two injured bald eagles in Mississippi were admitted into a wildlife rehabilitation center within one hour of each other.
Wild at Heart Rescue, a nonprofit in Jackson County, took in Kris and Kringle — two bald eagles that needed holiday rescues in south Mississippi.

Elzy senior enjoying GLH internship

Sorority chapter working to place blessing boxes to help people in need

The Kappa Alpha Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is working toward establishing two blessing boxes for those experiencing food insecurity and housing instability.
The boxes, which they hope will be installed by January, will be filled twice a week directly by the chapter year round.

Dilapidated structures to be torn down

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
