2 charged in fatal July 4 shooting

Two people have been charged with murder in a shooting that took place around 7:30 a.m. on the Fourth of July on Adams Avenue.
Stevenson Coleman, 44, 704 Ave. K, and Sharonika Washington, 29, 401 Douglas St., Itta Bena, were charged with murder and jailed on $500,000 bond.

Shots fired at complex; vehicles damaged

Shots were fired early Saturday morning at a Greenwood apartment complex, damaging a number of vehicles nearby.
Around 4:15 a.m., officers responded to the Snowden-Jones Apartments on Main Street and saw large crowds of people outside Buildings 14 and 2.

Woman charged with uttering forgery over counterfeit checks

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
