Greenwood police responded to several reports of shots fired in the city over the weekend.
On Friday, a woman went to the Police Department around 9:30 a.m. to report an altercation that had taken place the night before at the Motel 6.

A Greenwood native is set to be named Community Sports Influencer of the Year.
Jabbaria Williams, 33, will be honored by the Future Champions Greenwood-Leflore Hall of Fame on Friday at its High School Awards Banquet for his work promoting local athletes for their performance in games.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
