Mayor, 4 from council to attend DC conference

This Mississippi Blues Commission marker, which was outside the Valley Store in Teoc up the road from the Mississippi John Hurt Museum, was moved after a fire destroyed the museum on Feb. 22. The marker, one of 215 that have been posted on the Mississippi Blues Trail, contains information about Hurt’s music and life on both sides. Blues Trail marker honoring Hurt is safe

A Mississippi Blues Trail marker that was missing and thought to be stolen from the historic Valley Store in Teoc has been located, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, the Mississippi John Hurt Foundation and Hurt’s granddaughter, Mary Frances Hurt Wright.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
