Aggravated assault case dismissed

A Greenwood man charged with aggravated assault was released from jail Wednesday after the state could not prove probable cause.
Michael Warren, 27, 606 West Church St., was released from the Leflore County Jail on Wednesday, jail records confirmed, after more than eight months’ incarceration.

Police look for culprit in prank bomb threat

A text message prank reporting that dynamite had been planted behind two Greenwood Double Quick stores got out of hand and led to some anxious moments Monday afternoon.
Greenwood Police Chief Terrence Craft said his investigators were able to identify the origin of the texts Tuesday.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
