Walk to help those with MS is Saturday

A walk will be held Saturday in Itta Bena with the goal of helping more people afflicted with multiple sclerosis in the Mississippi Delta.
Walking for a Cure is set for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Mississippi Valley State University’s Rice-Totten Stadium.

Low election turnout likely

Voters in Leflore and Carroll counties head to the polls Tuesday for what are anticipated to be low-turnout Democratic and Republican primaries for federal office.
Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.

Sheriff’s Dept. receptionist to say goodbye

For more than 14 years, visitors to the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department and Justice Court have been able to count on seeing at least one smiling face.
That’s “Miss Wendy,” the Sheriff Office’s receptionist and jail docket clerk. But Friday will be Wendalyn Brown Hoskins’ last day behind the desk. She is retiring for medical reasons.

Students boost food drive

Greenwood Mayor Carolyn McAdams’ Extra Table March of the Mayors Delta Food Drive was not going well.
About five cans of fruit came into the Greenwood Police Department and Fire Department, but that was about it.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
