Tornado damages scores of homes in Greenwood area, but no deaths or injuries reported

A tornado that touched down around midnight Friday near Greenwood has damaged scores of homes and cars and put thousands without power, but no injuries or deaths have been reported, according to emergency management officials in Leflore and Carroll counties.

Man doesn't get far with stolen beverage truck

A bad battery foiled a Greenwood man’s effort to drive off in a beverage truck Monday.
“Lucky it’s got a bad battery in it,” said Elex Forrest, one of the Clark Beverage Group employees who were startled when a man jumped into one of the company’s 18-wheelers, put it in gear and began to drive off the lot of the Coca-Cola distributor.
