Valley in prime-time battle with Wildcats

After being held to only a field goal, Mississippi Valley State will lick its wounds dealt in a 24-3 loss to Alcorn State last Saturday and head to Daytona Beach, Florida, for a Thursday night prime-time matchup with Bethune-Cookman.
Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPNU.

DSA’s Vargas commits to play at Hinds CC

Delta Streets Academy’s star forward Danny Vargas has verbally committed to play soccer for Hinds Community College, and if things continue to run smooth, the senior will be suiting up for the Eagles next year.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
