Valley’s hoops fall in season starts

Mississippi Valley State’s men’s and women’s basketball teams tipped off the 2023-2024 season with losses on the road Monday.
The Delta Devils took on LSU in Baton Rouge, and fell 106-60 to the Tigers.

Carroll Academy took a 7-0 lead to the half Friday night in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A playoffs, but struggled to stop visiting Riverfield Academy as it rushed for three scores in the second half, handing the Rebels a 22-13 season-ending defeat.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
