Devils halt Rattlers’ sweep with 10-6 win

Mississippi Valley State hit two home runs and three doubles and bested visiting Florida A&M 10-6 on Sunday to narrowly avoid a weekend series sweep.
The win — which was the team’s second-ever against the Rattlers — moves Valley (9-15 overall) to 4-10 in SWAC games, already matching its conference wins from last year.

Buckley excited to showcase team in spring game

It has been a very unique spring football season for Valley head coach Terrell Buckley.
From his hiring in late January, to the mad scramble to put together a coaching roster and a first signing class so he can begin building a program, he said he’s never been a part of anything similar.

Hot bats lead Wildcats to sweep of Devils

Mississippi Valley State’s attempt to win back-to-back SWAC baseball series was thwarted at Bethune-Cookman over the weekend.
The Wildcats swept the Diamond Devils (9-13, 4-8 SWAC) by a combined score of 34-13 through three games, which began on Friday and ended on Saturday with a doubleheader.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
