Prep Roundup: PA tennis downs Starkville Academy 7-2

Pillow Academy’s tennis team captured a 7-2 win over visiting Starkville Academy on Thursday at Twin Rivers Recreation Center.
Pillow scored two wins in girls singles, one win in boys singles and mixed doubles and took three combined victories in girls and boys doubles.

Devils use four home runs to capture win over Bearcats

The Diamond Devils smacked four home runs in a game for the second time this season and used the scoring outburst to best visiting Rust College 15-9 on Tuesday.
Valley, which hit four homers on Sunday against Alcorn State, improved to 9-10 overall on the season.

Diamond Devils sweep Alcorn State

Make that four straight SWAC wins for the Diamond Devils.
Mississippi Valley State’s baseball team, which won the last of three games against Alabama A&M last week, earned a sweep over visiting rival Alcorn State late last week.
The teams played one game on Thursday and a doubleheader on Friday.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
