Postseason ban dealt to Valley football

Mississippi Valley State’s football team and men’s track team have been banned from postseason play for one year and will have practice restrictions for their upcoming seasons, according to the NCAA’s 2023-2024 Academic Progress Rate report released this week.

Tigers take 3 games from Devils

The Diamond Devils of Mississippi Valley State were dealt another series sweep, falling in three games to rival Jackson State University in Jackson over the weekend.
Valley (11-23, 10-11 SWAC) and JSU (27-17, 14-10) played a doubleheader on Saturday and concluded the series with a game on Sunday.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
