Delta Devils walk off Braves to open baseball season

What a way to start the baseball season for Mississippi Valley State.
After the Delta Devils canceled their first three games of the season, freshman Mac Floyd drilled a walk-off home run in the 10th inning to lift the Delta Devils to a 12-10 win over rival Alcorn State on Monday.

Lady Mustangs knock off old nemesis Leake Academy, celebrate trip to Overall Tournament

When the clock hit zero, Pillow Academy’s Lady Mustangs leaped off their feet and jumped into the air in celebration inside Stribling Gymnasium.
Maybe it was because they had just knocked off old nemesis Leake Academy in the MAIS Class 5A State Tournament’s consolation game with a 46-37 victory.

Lady Mustangs fall behind early in semifinal loss

Pillow Academy was dealt a 20-9 first-quarter deficit by East Rankin Academy that proved to be insurmountable in Friday’s semifinal match in the MAIS Class 5A State Tournament, and despite a strong second-half charge, the Lady Mustangs couldn’t pull ahead of the Lady Patriots in a 67-57 loss.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
