To open the MAIS Class 5A State Tournament, hosted by Pillow Academy, the Lady Mustangs couldn’t buy a bucket for the first half of Tuesday night’s game against Oak Forest.
Pillow Academy had numerous good looks on jump shots and layups, but no one could find any rhythm.

Mustangs' bid for 3-peat halted by Heritage

For the first time in a long time, a Pillow Academy boys soccer playoff contest ended in tears of sadness instead of joy.
Heritage Academy rolled into Greenwood Thursday night and canceled the Mustangs’ bid to a 3-peat in MAIS Division II with a 4-2 win over the Mustangs.
Pillow finishes the year 9-8 overall.

Mustangs’ 3-peat trek begins Thursday

Pillow Academy battled through a rough 2-7 start to its soccer season and even fought through a tough bout with the flu.
The Mustangs had to cancel their Jan. 23 game at Richland High School because six players were sick and couldn’t play, and the effects of the virus still lingered through the following games.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
