Dr. Kalanya Moore of Greenwood says she wasn’t into promoting breast cancer awareness until her mother developed cancer.
Now, though, “if I don’t have pink on every day in October, I’m talking about awareness,” Moore said.

Inmate work program to proceed

The Leflore County Sheriff’s Department has received unofficial approval from the Mississippi Department of Corrections to enter a Joint State-County Work Program to house state inmates at the county jail and have them help with picking up trash and other public works jobs.

School board mulls lifting mask mandate

The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School Board talked Tuesday about the possibility of making masks optional in the district.
Board Attorney Kelvin Pulley brought the issue of masks to the attention of the board and the superintendent.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
