Circuit clerk runoff coming up Tuesday

A runoff election Tuesday will determine Leflore County’s circuit clerk for the next three years, and that will be either Johnny Gary Jr. or Jackie Lewis.

Moore DUI appeal reset for Jan. 15

Leflore County Supervisor Reginald Moore’s DUI appeal to Leflore County Court, originally scheduled for Wednesday, has been continued once again.
The continuance was filed on Tuesday, one day before the hearing was scheduled to begin. The new trial date has been scheduled for Jan. 15.

City receiving $2M to upgrade Walthall St.

Greenwood is receiving $2 million in state funds to pay for improvements on Walthall Street.
The council unanimously approved two resolutions accepting the funds on Tuesday. The Mississippi Legislature earmarked the funds earlier this year as part of its local improvements projects fund.

Main St. executive director predicts 2025 will be ‘fruitful’

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
