Three more Greenwood residents have been killed in shootings since early Friday morning, when a 19-year-old woman died after being shot Thursday night.
Three people were shot, two fatally, around 11:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Main and McGehee streets, near Crosstown Grocery, Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders said.

41 set to graduate from JZ George

Forty-one seniors at J.Z. George High School will celebrate the end of their high school careers during a graduation ceremony Friday beginning at 7 p.m. at the school.
McKenzie Henson is the class valedictorian, and Samantha Ortega is the salutatorian. Their GPAs have yet to be calculated.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
