At least 250 in schools quarantined

At least 236 students and 14 teachers and staff members at schools throughout Carroll and Leflore counties were quarantined last week after exposure to COVID-19, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health’s latest aggregate school COVID-19 report, released Tuesday.

Supervisors OK budget for ’21-’22; school tax rate to rise 2.7%

Greenwood High closes campus due to COVID cases

Greenwood High School will be shutting down its campus again after six students and one staff member reported testing positive for COVID-19 Monday afternoon to the Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District.
The district made the announcement on its Facebook page on the same day.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
