Students' English, math scores drop

Results from the Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP) tests administered earlier this year show that student proficiency levels in English Language Arts and math decreased not just at schools across Carroll and Leflore counties but throughout the state.

Officials concerned about hospital

Members of the Leflore County Board of Supervisors and the Greenwood Leflore Hospital Board expressed concern Wednesday about the current operations of the hospital.
These criticisms, which include claims of lack of transparency and communication, come as the hospital deals with financial woes exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
