At least 250 in schools quarantined

At least 240 students and 10 teachers and staff members at schools throughout Carroll and Leflore counties have had to quarantine last week after exposure to COVID-19, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health’s latest aggregate school COVID-19 report, released this week.

Drizzle doesn't dampen 300 Oaks Road Race

Runners and walkers participating in this year’s 300 Oaks Road Race got to enjoy the benefits of a slight drizzling rain, which helped cool them off.
Sponsored by the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce, the 41st annual race was held Saturday morning.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
