Sure, it’s also her workplace, but she says it gives her a sense of serenity: “When I walk in, I can actually hear myself think and focus.”

A Greenwood mentoring organization for male youths is relaunching after a two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Instead, she went on to a two-decade career in the U.S. Army, serving as a psychiatric combat stress nurse.

Many in Tchula still have no electricity after storm

Many people still were without electricity Wednesday in Tchula and elsewhere in Holmes County after Tuesday’s severe storm.
As of Wednesday afternoon, there were just over 1,400 power outages in Holmes County, including about 730 in Tchula, according to Mara Hartmann, a spokeswoman for Entergy Mississippi.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
