Many people still were without electricity Wednesday in Tchula and elsewhere in Holmes County after Tuesday’s severe storm.
As of Wednesday afternoon, there were just over 1,400 power outages in Holmes County, including about 730 in Tchula, according to Mara Hartmann, a spokeswoman for Entergy Mississippi.
“We are continuing our damage assessment, but in Holmes County, we have already found multiple poles down,” Hartmann said in an email Wednesday.
The company’s restoration work will continue, and it is hoped that it will be finished by the end of Thursday.
“As we complete restoration efforts in other counties, we will be shifting those workers to Holmes County and other hard-hit counties to assist so that we can get all customers restored as quickly as we are safely able,” Hartmann said.
Various schools within the Holmes County Consolidated School District were left without power, and many of the roads were impassable due to fallen power lines and trees, according to a Facebook post by the school district that same day.
Because of the outages, all of the district’s schools and central office were closed Wednesday, although classes were to resume Thursday, the school district said.
The Tchula Public Library also was closed Tuesday and Wednesday because of the outages, the library said on its Facebook page.
