Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School Board: Brown proposes citations for reckless drivers

A Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District official said Wednesday that he would like the district’s officers to be able to issue citations to reckless drivers on school property as well as those playing loud music.

Repairs coming to portion of Carrollton Ave.

A portion of Carrollton Avenue in Greenwood will be refurbished in the coming weeks.
During Monday’s meeting, the Leflore County Board of Supervisors voted to have a portion of the road, from Bowie Lane west to the railroad tracks, milled at the cost of just over $355,000.

Board OKs land sale for business

The Leflore County Board of Supervisors voted to approve selling 5 acres of property in the Greenwood-Leflore Industrial Park so a transportation business can move in.
The board approved selling the land on Edison Street for $3,000 an acre to Tyrone Davis, owner of KT&T Express.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
