The United Way of Leflore County’s All-In Event is a one-day fundraiser that provides multiple ways to support nonprofit organizations that make Greenwood a better place to live, says Courtney Kimmel, executive director of the United Way.

The fourth annual All-In Event will be held Thursday at the Greenwood Country Club.

Discovery of soldier's remains is 'bittersweet'

For 69 years, the family of U.S. Army Cpl. Joe T. Avant has hoped that one day his remains would be found and returned home.

“That wondering what happened to him never goes away,” said his younger sister, Delores Moore of Greenwood. “It never does, and it did not go away for our family.”

The Patel brothers began stopping by Indywood to visit with the residents during their summer break. Now back in school, they plan to continue riding their bikes to Indywood, where they often greet residents who are sitting on the front porch.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
