Custodian takes pride in his work

Leevon White likes to work with his hands.

“I have a little creativity in my hands,” he said.

White serves as the custodian and groundskeeper at Threadgill Elementary School, where he’s worked for almost 30 years.

“I started during the 1989-90 school year; I think it was in the middle of the school year,” he said.

The Browning community’s 29th annual Labor Day festival will honor one of the event’s founders, the late Robert Earl Moore.

In memorial, this year’s event will be called the Robert E. Moore Labor Day Festival.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
