Fall Festival set Saturday at St. Francis

St. Francis of Assisi School is preparing for its upcoming Fall Festival.

The annual event will be held on the school grounds from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

“It’s the school’s largest fundraiser of the year,” said Principal Jackie Cooper-Lewis.

Mississippi Valley State University student Arlencia Barnes says it’s truly a blessing to be the recipient of the Augusta C. White Scholarship.

The 21-year-old senior spoke at the annual Augusta C. White Scholarship Luncheon Thursday at the Historic Elks Building in downtown Greenwood.

GLH to offer patients 3-D mammography soon

Greenwood Leflore Hospital health care providers are excited that the hospital will soon offer its patients state-of-the-art 3D mammography exams.

The 3D exam provides better, earlier breast cancer detection and is the only mammogram approved by the FDA as superior for women with dense breasts compared to 2D alone.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
