There is nothing like Delta women on a mission, says Paula Provine, who is a seven-year breast cancer survivor.

Provine is a board member of Delta Cotton Belles, a Greenville-based nonprofit that provides services to the uninsured and underinsured across the Delta who are dealing with a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church is gearing up for its annual fall tradition — the Spaghetti Supper and Halloween Carnival.

“Everyone is invited,” said Sullivan Stuckey, 13, one of the members of the church’s Catholic Youth Organization, which benefits from the fundraiser.

Witches ride

Witches and warlocks, grab your brooms — or bikes — and join in a Halloween-themed parade for a good cause.

The second annual Witches Ride will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The event serves as a fundraiser for the Leflore County Humane Society.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
