The autumn season brings crisp chilly weather, pumpkins, fall festivals, hay rides, football games and the arrival of the fall issue of Leflore Illustrated.
The magazine is included in copies of the Weekend edition of the Commonwealth delivered to home-delivery subscribers. Additional copies are available at the Commonwealth, the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce, the Greenwood Convention and Visitors Bureau and multiple other locations around town.
The magazine’s glossy 48 pages feature a variety of articles and photos that are sure to put readers into a fall state of mind. It also includes a story with plenty of Christmas cheer and will leave readers anticipating the approaching holiday season.
The cover of Leflore Illustrated features Todd Fincher, who enjoys growing apple trees in Carroll County with his brother, Stuart, and his grandson, Branham Barlow.
If you’re skeptical about apples growing in Mississippi, think again. The Finchers have a fruitful orchard that produces an abundance of apples for humans and the wildlife nearby.
The fall issue of Leflore Illustrated also includes articles on these other subjects:
nMany are raving about soul food restaurant The Venue by the Trail, which is owned by Greenwood firefighter Jamoni Jennings.
nFirst Presbyterian Church features an organ that is the sixth-largest in the state.
nFood columnist Lee Ann Flemming provides the recipe for the “perfect fall beverage.”
nA Q-and-A with 11-year-old David Williams Jr., who is quite the sports fan.
nChristmas past is Christmas future for the home of Webb and Gage Franklin. This issue’s house feature is holiday themed as Gage brings out her treasured decorations.
nAnglean Wardell has her “own little world” of collectibles.
nArchitect Tommy Goodman thinks big and paints big. The Carrollton resident paints landscapes and abstracts.
nAfter researching, local historian Donny Whitehead believes the former Scates Bros. Drug Store — now occupied by The Delta Boutique and Gifts — may be the oldest building in Greenwood. Two other buildings have also been longtime contenders for the title.
The magazine also features a photo essay that illustrates why we love high school football and includes multiple event photo pages, too.
Leflore Illustrated is bookended with columns — one by Commonwealth Editor and Publisher Tim Kalich, who welcomed a third grandson, and the other by Greenwood Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Danielle Morgan, who tells readers why tourism matters.
