Molley and two other girls — one from Hattiesburg and another from the Greenville area — will serve as Miss Clinton’s princesses at the Miss Mississippi Pageant this week. The Miss Mississippi Corp. Magnolia Prince and Princess Program is a way to mentor children ages 7 to 10 who have an interest in someday competing in or working on the Miss Mississippi Pageant. Molley, 7, attends Pillow Academy and will be a third-grader in the fall.

Leflore takes her 2nd shot at crown

Hannah Leflore is back in Vicksburg to compete in the 2016 Miss Mississippi Pageant.

In February, Leflore won the title of Miss Clinton, a qualifying pageant for the state contest. She also competed in last year’s Miss Mississippi Pageant with the title of Miss Mississippi Delta Community College.

Animal shelter is overrun with stray, abandoned cats

A cardboard box closed shut with duct tape and with tiny holes punched in the side was dropped off at the front door of the Leflore County Humane Society’s shelter one day last week after business hours.

Inside were four fluffy kittens, about 8 weeks old.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
