Chef loves to cook, make patrons smile

Robert Gillespie said he was inspired to become a chef after spending some time in New Orleans right after finishing up high school.

“I would eat at these amazing restaurants down there and all this amazing food, and I decided that’s what I wanted to do,” said Gillespie, 35. “I liked to cook and thought I could do well at it.”

A summertime tradition

Up in the air

Frank Kimmel of Kimmel Aviation Insurance says The Greenwood Air Show gets bigger and better each year.

Kimmel, one of the event’s organizers, said he expects the fourth annual show will bring out about 4,500 to 5,000 attendees to the Greenwood-Leflore Airport.

A growing interest

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
