'Suddenly, Last Summer'

Greenwood Little Theatre will end its 2016-17 season with a one-act show written by renowned playwright and Mississippi native Tennessee Williams.

Eddie Amelung, co-director of “Suddenly, Last Summer,” said he has wanted to bring this play to the Little Theatre for a while.

Several raffles are being held this summer to raise funds to treat heartworm-positive dogs at the Leflore County Humane Society. A chance to win a raffle prize is $10. The raffles are being held by the Friends for Paws committee, which also held the Paws in the Park event last August. 'Local Color'

A vibrant exhibit featuring all new artwork by two Greenwood artists is coming to the Museum of the Mississippi Delta.

An opening reception for “Local Color,” a joint showing of pieces by Angie Crick Cole and Shawn Hodges, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the museum.

Brent and Danielle Morgan of Teoc adopted Howard, a small black-and-tan dog with long floppy ears that gained local fame about a month ago as many Greenwood residents would post their efforts to catch the dog on Facebook. Danielle is the executive director of the Greenwood Convention and Visitors Bureau on Howard Street, which is where Howard frequently roamed.

Former stray dog now happy at home

Howard, once a stray dog roaming the streets of downtown Greenwood, is living the good life at his forever home.

He was adopted by Danielle Morgan, executive director of the Greenwood Convention and Visitors Bureau, and her husband, Brent, shortly after being captured on May 5.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
