Youth groups to help restock Pantry

Greenwood youth groups will go from house to house collecting donations for the Greenwood Community Food Pantry on Sunday.

The annual Youth CAN Make a Difference canned food drive, sponsored and organized by Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for almost 30 years, is a youth-led effort to restock the Community Food Pantry.

Museum exhibit offers look inside Parchman

An upcoming exhibit at the Museum of the Mississippi Delta will provide a look inside the Mississippi State Penitentiary, also known as Parchman.

“Parchman” is a collection of photographs taken by Delta State University professor R. Kim Rushing. A book with the same name was released in December 2016.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
