A post-wedding gathering late Saturday night led to an Itta Bena man being charged with aggravated assault.

Fekria Aldhufri, an employee at Greenland Market No. 3, is taken by ambulance to Greenwood Leflore Hospital following a shooting Monday afternoon. Aldhufri was in the store when a gunfight erupted outside. He was hit by a stray bullet. His wounds were not considered life-threatening.

Stray bullet hits store worker

A employee was shot in a Greenwood convenience store Monday afternoon, but his wounds are not considered life-threatening, Police Chief Ray Moore says.

The shooting occurred at Greenland Market No. 3, 1407 Main St., around 3:45 p.m. Moore said this morning that the shots were fired outside the store and not in an attempted robbery.

“Journalism, I think, is about being a good observer, a good listener. It’s about learning with an open mind,” said Eastburn, 62, who began as a Commonwealth staff writer Monday. “I like it because there is always something new to learn.”

St. Francis principal will head to Hawaii

Sister Mary Ann Tupy, a familiar presence at St. Francis of Assisi School for six years, will say goodbye soon and head to a new position in Hawaii.

The St. Francis principal will return to the classroom again to teach at St. Theresa Church and School, which is in the town of Kekaha on the island of Kauai.
