Leflore County to graduate 53 Tuesday

Leflore County High School will graduate 53 seniors Tuesday at its commencement exercise.

The ceremony will be at 7 p.m. at the Leflore County Civic Center.

Destiney Sharkey is the class valedictorian, and Kieria Rose is its salutatorian.

Sharkey scored 25 on the ACT, and Rose scored 21.

Rural US voices need to be heard, senator says

Zika fears loom over mosquito battle

Amid concern over the Zika virus, Greenwood is gearing up for its annual war against mosquitoes.

Plans currently call for spraying to begin in the first week of June and run through September, said Susan Bailey, director of the Public Works Department.

Majs. Wendy and Benjamin Deuel have served in Greenwood for almost four years. In June they will leave for a new assignment in Florence, Alabama. The Deuels said Greenwood has been a welcoming community that has come forward to help the Salvation Army.

As Salvation Army Majs. Benjamin and Wendy Deuel prepare to move on to a new assignment in Alabama, they look on their nearly four years in Greenwood with fondness.

They will leave for Florence, Alabama, June 19.
