Death blamed on heat

An Itta Bena woman’s recent death has been ruled as heat-related, according to Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders.

Catherine Ervin, 61, 111 Ricks Drive, died sometime Monday night, Sanders said.

Carroll joins recycling program

CARROLLTON — Carroll County is on the recycling bandwagon.

Anne Marie Gregory, director of Greenwood-Leflore Recycling, presented the idea to Carroll County supervisors in March, and she said they were the most enthusiastic group she’s appeared before to discuss recycling.

Man accused of shooting dog

An animal welfare group is calling for swift punishment for a June 13 incident in which a Greenwood man is accused of shooting a dog in the face with a 12-gauge shotgun.

Eddie Matthews, 61, 118 Dogwood Lane, was charged with shooting an animal (animal cruelty). He was released on $1,000 bond and faces a July 7 court date.
