Council approves police HQ upgrade

The Greenwood City Council has approved the $3.2 million demolition and renovation of the city’s Police Department headquarters on Main Street.

Kenneth R. Thompson Jr. Builder Inc. of Greenwood submitted the winning bid on the project. Demolition work could begin within a week, said Mayor Carolyn McAdams.

2nd man charged in store robbery

A second suspect has been charged in connection with the June 12 robbery of a Greenwood grocery store.

Christopher Anthony Davis, 36, 301 Crestview Circle, has been charged with two counts of armed robbery of the Big Star located at 206 Cotton St. as well as the robbery of a customer who was in the store at the time.

Board OKs hiring contract nurses

District makes case for tax increase

A public hearing Monday night on the 2016-2017 budget for the Leflore County School District drew about 10 people.

The district, which is projected to have 2,405 students beginning in August, is seeking an increase in its operational millage of 1.62 mills.
