A resolution proposing that Main and Howard streets be made two-way again has been withdrawn from Tuesday’s Greenwood City Council agenda.

Mayor Carolyn McAdams said earlier in the week that the measure would be on the agenda. Since then, it has drawn opposition from city residents and business leaders.

Main St. sidewalk work begins

Work has begun on new sidewalks and historical lighting on Main Street.

The $1.1 million project is funded by a grant from the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

“It’s a continuation of the work on Howard and Johnson streets,” said Mayor Carolyn McAdams.

Main, Howard may revert to 2-way streets

The Greenwood City Council on Tuesday will consider changing Main and Howard streets from one-way streets back to two-way thoroughfares.

Mayor Carolyn McAdams said the street directions were changed in 1988.

“This is not the mayor’s decision. This is the council’s decision,” she said.
