Beard + Riser Design has backed out of its purchase of the historic former Gulf station on Main Street.

The design firm purchased the building from the City of Greenwood for $75,000 on March 1.

Ex-Greenwood Utilities CEO fired, reinstated in Canton

Former Greenwood Utilities CEO Brian Finnegan was fired as CEO of Canton Municipal Utilities last Tuesday — but by Friday he was back at work.

Finnegan and CMU staff attorney LaToya Redd Thompson were both reinstated to their positions with the municipally owned utility, according to Finnegan’s attorney, Lisa Ross of Jackson.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
