The executives and board of directors of Delta Electric Power Association on Tuesday got a firsthand demonstration of the value of air rescue.

A helicopter from the AirMedCare fleet landed on the front lawn of the association’s Greenwood headquarters.

Carroll County orders burn ban

The Carroll County Board of Supervisors, concerned about hot and dry conditions, has issued an outdoor burn ban.

The ban, which was issued on Wednesday, will remain in effect until Nov. 4, or “until it rains,” said Carroll County Chancery Clerk Sugar Mullins.

Leflore Democrats to hold annual Beans & Greens

Final plans are being made for Thursday’s 17th annual Beans & Greens Dinner.

The dinner is being organized by the Leflore County Democratic Party Executive Committee.

It will be at 7 p.m. at the Leflore County Civic Center.

A wine and cheese reception will precede the dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
