Chamber group raising funds to buy body cams

The 2016 Leadership Greenwood Class of the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce is determined to help the Greenwood Police Department get needed body cameras.

The class of 14 up-and-coming business leaders is holding a raffle for the purchase of the cameras, which cost $350 each. The price for a raffle ticket is $10.

City sales tax revenue rises in Sept.

The city of Greenwood saw a modest increase in sales tax receipts last month compared to September 2015.

Thomas Gregory, the city’s chief administrative officer, told the City Council on Tuesday that the city’s sales tax receipts for September totaled $379,875, an increase of $19,300, or 5 percent, over the same time last year.

Board hears room cleaning report

The Greenwood Leflore Hospital Board of Commissioners heard a report regarding the average cleaning time for rooms in the hospital Tuesday.

Ora Lee, the hospital’s director of environmental services, provided the report on how quickly Aramark Environmental Services performed its functions.

Not enough body cams

The city of Greenwood is seeking private funding for the purchase of 32 additional body cameras for its police officers.

Mayor Carolyn McAdams said Monday, despite earlier reports, not all of the department’s officers are equipped with body cameras.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
