Veteran Carroll Dem switches to GOP

Ken Strachan, a longtime Carroll County Democrat, has decided to join the Republican Party.

Strachan served as mayor of North Carrollton from 2001 to 2005 and three terms as Carroll County coroner, all as a Democrat.

Now, he said, “I’m more in line with the Republican Party.”

Holiday shopping season produces mixed results

This year’s Christmas shopping season turned out to be a mixed bag for Greenwood retailers.

Mike Goldberg, co-owner of Conerly’s Shoes & Clothing, said the business had a strong month and predicted another good year.

“I’ve been doing this 46 years. It was the best year I’ve ever had,” he said.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.
