Woman charged in man's stabbing

A Leflore County woman has been accused of repeatedly stabbing her boyfriend during a domestic dispute.

Jacqueline Huggins, 25, 2620 Luther Drive, remained in the Leflore County Jail this morning, according to Ken Spencer, chief investigator for the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department.

Missing man's body found

Relatives and friends of Jacques Lzan Robinson of Itta Bena have been frantically trying since Saturday to find the missing 41-year-old.

On Tuesday, authorities in Sunflower County, investigating a submerged vehicle in the Sunflower River between the cities of Moorhead and Indianola on U.S. 82, found Robinson’s body inside.

Big crowd expected at Blues Fest on Saturday at civic center

Blues fans from across the South will make their way to Greenwood Saturday for Mississippi Blues Fest’s annual spring concert.

The “Springfest” show will begin at 7 p.m. at the Leflore County Civic Center. Doors will open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $26 in advance and $30 at the door.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
