Itta Bena shooting suspect caught

An Itta Bena man wanted in connection with a shooting into an occupied dwelling on Jan. 16 as well as attempted arson and aggravated assault is now in the custody of the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department.

Jacques Wilburn, 18, of Morris Street remained in the Leflore County Jail this morning.

Sonny’s Tire Recyclers, located at 505 Walthall St., would be required to put up fencing to conceal its used tires from public view under a proposal that will be presented to the Greenwood City Council within the next 60 days. The effort is part of an extensive revision of the city’s Code of Ordinances.

The city of Greenwood plans to require junkyards within its limits to begin cleaning up their acts.

The city is about 60 days out from bringing proposed revisions to the city’s Code of Ordinances before the City Council for its consideration.

The recent wet weather has not dampened the enthusiasm of Leflore County farmers as they look forward to the 2017 crop year.

“We could stand some more. No doubt about it. I know we’re below average right now,” said Andy Braswell, an agent with the Mississippi State University Leflore County Extension Service.
