Mayor aims to update ordinances

Soon, if Greenwood Mayor Carolyn McAdams gets her way, the city’s antiquated ordinances regulating hitching posts will be gone and residential homeowners will be able to keep up to three chickens on their property.

This sinkhole opened up on Hampstead Drive in North Carrollton this morning, preventing residents of the Hampstead Apartments from leaving. Efforts were under way to provide the residents with an alternate route out of the complex.

“It’s all coming together,” the mayor said, regarding work on the 13,000-square-foot building that was built in 1967.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
