The Eddie “Sonny” Brown Memorial Pool at 601 Ave. N. is named in memory of Eddie Brown, one of the first black assistant principals at Greenwood High School. Brown was a graduate of Broad Street High School and a Grambling State University football star. He died in 1981.

Broad Street High School graduate, star Grambling State football player and one of the first two black assistant principals at the newly integrated Greenwood High School in the early 1970s, Brown left his mark in a lot of places.

Street work continues this week

Almost a week ago, motorists travelling down West Park Avenue were greeted with gridlock as crews began repaving near the intersection with the U.S. 82-49 bypass.

By Friday, the work was done, including the planned striping of West Park Avenue, the heaviest- traveled stretch of roadway in the city.

The Leflore County Junior 4-H Livestock Show brought lots of youngsters out to the Leflore County Agri-Center Saturday for a chance to shine with their animals.

In all, about 70 kids participated Saturday.
