Fundraiser for cancer victim set for March 31

A fundraiser will be held beginning at 11 a.m. March 31 at the Elks Lodge No. 854, located at 1010 Sgt. John A. Pittman Drive.

Larry “Kite” Johnson, executive director of the Greenwood Community and Recreation Center, has received a mini-grant from the Jackson-based Mississippi Community Education Center. The grant will provide instruction for up to 40 at-risk students between 10 and 15 beginning March 29.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
