The friends and family of J.C. Prescott are hoping to raise funds next week to help in his fight against Stage 4 lung cancer.
A fundraiser will be held beginning at 11 a.m. March 31 at the Elks Lodge No. 854, located at 1010 Sgt. John A. Pittman Drive.
Dinner plates of chicken quarters, baked beans, potato salad and cole slaw will be sold for $10 each.
For Prescott, 70, a retired superintendent with Upchurch Plumbing, the struggle with cancer has been difficult, said his brother, David Prescott.
“He takes two treatments. He does chemo on Mondays and radiation every day,” he said.
On Wednesday night, Prescott required a blood transfusion for his weakened immune system, David Prescott said.
Prescott is married to Sherry Prescott, and they have four children.
The fundraiser is a way for family and friends to help cover some of the cost of treatments, travel and medication.
A raffle for a deer stand will be held as part of the fundraiser.
Tickets for the raffle are $5 each or five for $20 or 10 for $40.
Tickets for the dinner plates and the raffle may be purchased in advance by calling David Prescott at 271-4459.
Tickets for the dinners or raffle may also be purchased on the day of the event at the Elks Lodge.
“So far, we’ve done pretty good. We’ve sold quite a few,” David Prescott said.
The event will also have a silent auction of items such as yard decorations, tools, stereos and gift certificates.
At least 22 items have already been donated for the silent auction, David Prescott said.
