Credit union aims to fill void left in Itta Bena by bank’s departure

The prospect of HOPE Credit Union coming to Itta Bena, bringing with it a full range of banking options, drew a crowd of about 40 people Monday night.

It was announced last week that Regions Bank would be donating its Itta Bena branch, located at 120 Humphreys St., to HOPE in August.

Budget includes 4% tax increase

Leflore County School District Conservator Robert Strebeck was to sign a proposed $26.5 million 2015-2016 budget this afternoon that will include roughly a 4 percent ad valorem tax increase — just slightly more than half of what was originally proposed.

Police aim to move by July 7

The relocation of the Greenwood Police Department to its temporary headquarters is finally beginning to take shape, Chief Ray Moore says.

“We’re getting everybody together. We’re hoping to get this thing started on (July 7),” he said.

Railroad gives $25,000 to museum

The Museum of the Mississippi Delta, in the midst of a $450,000 capital campaign, has received a $25,000 donation from Canadian National Railway.

Steve Browning, a government consultant with the railroad, delivered the check to the museum’s executive director, Cheryl Taylor, on Thursday.
