A Georgia man was sentenced Monday to five years in federal prison in connection with the 2013 fire at Albert’s Exxon in Itta Bena, according to a Leflore County fire official.

Area crops weather high temperatures

Leflore County crops, which have endured unrelenting heat over the past month, are holding up well.

“They’re looking good right now,” said Andy Braswell Sr., an agent with the Leflore County Extension Service. “Of course, the rain has been spotty. Some areas have gotten rain while others have not.”
