Veterans official seeks city assistance

The AmeriCorps veterans’ resource coordinator for Leflore County asked the Greenwood City Council for help Tuesday in securing municipally owned facilities for upcoming events for veterans.

Robert Beasley said AmeriCorps opened an office at American Legion Post 200 on Thursday.

Historic districts to be surveyed

Greenwood’s seven historic districts are about to be surveyed to see if they should be expanded or combined.

Brantley Snipes, executive director of Main Street Greenwood, said the Jaeger Group of Athens, Georgia, was selected to conduct the survey based upon the company’s previous projects.

Shooting death suspect surrenders

A fourth suspect wanted in the Aug. 16 shooting death of D’Alandis Love turned himself in to authorities Thursday.

Armand Jones, 22, 425 Taft St., charged with first-degree murder, remained in jail this morning.

When Jones surrendered Thursday, he was accompanied by his attorney, the sheriff said.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
